Celebration!!

This week our first challenge of 2013 at PaperPlay Challenges is Celebration!! Sadly, this will be our last challenge for a while, but we hope to be back with a bang later this year so keep your eyes peeled for us!!!

I made a card to celebrate an engagement and used a happy ever after sentiment on it. The little envelope on the front holds a gift card for the lucky couple.

I stitched my embossed papers together with natural jute twine also for a bit of interest – plus I didn’t have enough of it to cover the full front of the card ;p

Out with the old, in with the new!!

This week at PaperPlay Challenges it is Out with the Old and in with the New!! We are kindly sponsored by Kraftin’ Kimmie….

I got to use this fun image from the December Kraftin’ Kimmie release, such an adorable little monster! I used some fun papers and added some doodling to jazz it all up. I hand cut all my papers to try get a nice and rough and wonky finish. This card is for a little boy’s birthday and I didn’t want it all straight and perfect!

My new was the stamp, the papers and the border edge punch too!

in with the new

I added some glossy accents to the monster in certain places on the nose eyes and tongue to give a bit of extra shine!

Colour challenge fun!

This week at PaperPlay Challenges we have a fun colour challenge for you.  We are kindly sponsored by Waltzing Mouse Stamps too with a stamp set up for grabs!! The colours we want you to work with are - Greenpink & cream. Now I am not a very pink and green and cream girly crafter as you may have noticed. After some slagging from Sandie  one of the queens of pink and girly I told her I was going to make a grungy pink and green project. And this is what happened….

I took a cream tag and splattered it with lemongrass glimmer mist and then green and pink inks. I then stamped the skyline in walnut stain distress ink and inked the edges of the tag with this too. I stamped some stars (my pink ink was too pale to see as stars so I had to use a purply one!) and added a hot air balloon. I cut out a banner, stamped my sentiment and added a teeny star on it to match. I then used a stapler to attach this to the card. I crumpled some pink seam binding and dragged it though some diluted walnut stain to distress in.

It is as grungy as I could make pink and green and cream. I would like to dedicate this one to Sandie ;p

Dreams….

This week at PaperPlay Challenges our theme is Paper Piecing. We are sponsored this week by Destination Art.

I am not usually a paper piecing person, I don’t like fussy cutting, especially as I suffer from shaky hands. However I jumped right into this one and had great fun piecing together my Gorjuss girl. I even pieced the teeny mushrooms and hedgehog by her feet!!

I started with kraft card for her and then used a mix of blues from scrap papers. I even gave her some streaks of blue hair, I would love streaks like that!! I created the background of my card by tearing up more strips of scraps. I then added stickles to a star and a sentiment with some faux scrabble tiles. I love how this turned out. I think it is definately one of those cards you don’t want to give away!

Shine On….

This week at PaperPlay Challenges we want you to “Shine On” – use something shiny, sparkly or glossy on your project. We are kindly sponsored by Simon Says Stamp this week….

(Please note: This is a voucher code that entitles the winner to a $15 saving off their order in Simon Says Stamp,  P+P charges will still apply unless the conditions are met to earn free P+P,  please check here if you would like to see these conditions)
For my card I dove into my scrap pile and pulled out a lot of pink and purple papers. (For some reason the pink patterned paper is coming out a bit orange in photos, but it is a baby pink colour!) So I used these all matted onto a white card base. I then stamped an image, coloured it with pink and purple colouring pencils and then added glitter all over it. I added a bit more bling and called it done!

I had enough of the scraps left over to alter a notebook to go with the card. I created a belly band for the notebook and added another image from the same collection and again glittered it up. You can see the set together below….

And a view of just the notebook….

Happy Holidays!

This week at PaperPlay Challenges our theme is holidays. You can pick and holiday you like, be it Easter, Christmas etc. Then just create a project based on your holiday. Super simple and fun! We are sponsored this week by Destination Art..

For my project I decided to create a bright and fun Christmas tag. I started off with a blue card stock tag and added torn strips of white at the bottom to look like snow. I then added a penguin I die cut and a added a scarf to him with some ribbon. I stamped the background of the tag with a snowflake stamp, and then added a sentiment.
It is a very bright and fun tag, not my usual style, but its fun to switch things up sometimes right!!

Autumnal Tags

This week at PaperPlay Challenges we want to see you make an Autumnal tag or use Autumn colours AND a tag on your card. This week we are sponsored by Simon Says Stamp….

I went with autumnal colours on my tag, lots of warm orange, green and brown. I stamped a wood grain background on my brown distressed paper and then added some orange card embossed with my new honeycomb embossing folder (I love this folder!!). I die cut my bird from cork for more texture and gave it some bling for an eye and a red chest to try make him a Robbin! The best thing about this tag is that every element on it was from my scrap pile, I love when I can get some of my scraps used up!!

Focus on the sentiment….

Its time for another challenge from PaperPlay Challenges! This week we want to see your sentiment as your main image.  We are kindly sponsored this week by Whiff of Joy with a stamp up for grabs as the prize!

I decided since everyone else is doing it that I should start too – make Christmas items! I decided to make a tag as I never have enough of them when it comes to wrapping gifts. So I am planning on tipping away at creating them. I used a Waltzing Mouse Stamps set for my Christmas sentiment. I love this set, so perfect for all Christmas occasions. I used some Christmas paper from last year (Bo Bunny I think) that I dug out from my scrap pile.

I added the tissue tape to the bottom and a feather, some flourishes and the bird which I tried to turn into a robin! I love how the sentiment really pops out on this tag even with everything going on.

Make sure to head over to the PaperPlay challenge blog to see what the other design team members have created – stunning work as always! Then make sure to enter and share your work with us!!

Shaped card….

This week at Paper Play Challenges we are creating shaped cards. We are kindly sponsored by Quixotic Paperie with a fantastic prize of a £10 store voucher!! To play along simply create a shaped card – no squares or rectangles and upload your entry to our challenge blog.

I created a pumpkin shaped card. I have Halloween on the mind for some reason and to me Halloween = pumpkins, and I LOVE pumpkin soup!! I created my pumpkin using ovals cut with nestabilities and mounted it on a rectangle card base. I then cut the base to be the same shape as the pumpkins. I added a little greenery and a tag tied on with some twine and called it done. A clean and simple pumpkin shaped card!!

Music!!

Edit: Apologies about the delay on this being posted, it was scheduled but seemed to have chosen not to post when it should have!!

This week at PaperPlay Challenges the theme is music. We would like to see you use this fun theme on your card/LO or project. We are very kindly sponsored by Destination Art

The random chosen winner will receive a $25 AUD store voucher.
I got really messy creating my tag this week. I inked it up first using Chipped Sapphire and Peacock Feathers distress ink. I then smeared texture paste onto it randomly. I then stamped into the texture paste with a music background stamp and let it fully dry. I then inked over this in Black Soot distress ink and wiped a lot of it off, just to give some detail to the music stamping impressions. I also lightly went over the texture paste with my two blues again to tone down the whiteness of it! I then inked up a bookplate die cut and added some music notes here and there. So messy and inky but so much fun!!

Thanks for stopping by!!
