Emphasise the Negative….

Hi all, long time no blog post. It has been a bit mad around here lately! I am stopping by today with an entry into the Moxie Fab World Emphasise the Negative challenge. You can find the challenge here.

I used my favourite My Minds Eye Follow Your Heart, Be Amazing papers to create a tag. I also used the Just My Type stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

I stamped the typewriter on the striped paper. I used a craft knife to cut out the ‘paper’ from it. I then use this to help position my letters on some orange card stock. I stamped the letters in black, except for the H and I – I stamped them in teal, but its not showing very well in the image below….

I mounted the striped paper on foam pads on a tag with the orange card stuck down in behind. I added some washi tape and orange stripe to the bottom of the tag. My sentiment is from the same set and uses paper from the same collection. I added lawn trimmings twine to the tag and capped off the ends of the twine with some matching washi tape for a nice finished look. I sprinkled on some gems and called it done!

I love the effect the foam mounted panel gives. Oh and FYI – that little typewriter ribbon part over the page – I fussy cut that out and mounted it on foam pads too to keep the dimension going – I never thought I would ever have that much patience!

Thanks for stopping by today and make sure to check out the challenge!

Embossing fun….

I am having great fun with the Moxie Fab World challenges lately. Today I got to quickly play along with the Embossing and Debossing challenge. I used a home made butterfly embossing folder to emboss my teal card stock. I love making my own embossing folders, as well as being a clever way of saving money it also makes me feel good to get even more use out of my dies!

I sanded the raised portions to add a bit more oomf. I then used another embossing folder to deboss a pattern onto the bottom portion of white card stock.

I love the teal and white colour combination, it is one of my favourites, it always looks so clean and crisp!

Flying by for a quick visit….

Just a quick one from me today. I had a bit of time today to have some crafty fun so I decided to combine the Skipping Stones challenge with the Moxie Fab World Cutting and Trimming challenge….

I cut all the papers and cut out the bird. Its hard to tell from the photo but the branch is glued directly to the page but the bird is raised up on foam dots to give it more dimension and depth. Right back to work now, I am a busy bee!!

The Punches Challenge..

Over at Moxie Fab World there is a great challenge to use your punches in an innovative way. I dont know how innovative my use of punches are but to be honest it was good to just be using my punches. They tend to be a little bit neglected by me. I also only have about 5 of them so that in itself is a bit of a challenge!

I used some Christmas paper from my stash for my background, I love the look of this paper. I then used a circle punch to cut out the white and red circles. I punched the heart out of the centre of the white circles. I then matted these with some more red circles. I paid these across the bottom of my card and raised the white ones on foam tape to add a little extra dimension. I then added two larger hearts and a banner across them for a sentiment.

There are some fantastic entries to the challenge over at Moxie Fab World as well as a few other fantastic challenges to get you off to a crafty new year!

Creating with Maps!

It was recently my friend Timi’s birthday so naturally I made her a card. I decided to use images of vintage maps for on the card. I used a Hungarian map (where she is from) and an Irish map (where she now lives). Dublin and Pécs both have a little star on them – her home town and where she lives now! Both were vintage map images I printed from the internet and then I aged and distressed them some more. The colour scheme is greens as that is Timi’s favourite colour.

I used the Skipping Stones Designs sketch for the layout of the card and also used  a Skipping Stones Design stamp set for the sentiment – the Grunge Set.

I am also entering this into the Moxie Fab World Map to Your Heart Challenge.

Happy Birthday Timi!!

The Pyrex Effect….

I LOVE the Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World this week…..

This pyres set is so vintage looking, it reminds me of something you would have had in the press as a child in the 80′s that was only brought out on special occasions! I had great fun creating a card and trying to incorporate the colours – red and orange are not usually colours I jump to put together! I used a Hero Arts stamp to include a bird similar to on the dishes. The paisley embossed card is my version of the flower on the dishes. I used a red button and some orange paper cord to give a bit more interest to my card. Here is the result of my efforts….

The little gifts….

I want to enter this into the Little Gifts Challenge in the Moxie Fab World so I have split it out from my previous post so that it was easier to follow.

I picked up this solid wooden letter in TK Max (TJ Max). It was perfect for a gift for a friend, but it needed a lot of prettying up! I painted it a aqua colour and then stamped it all over with a flourish stamp. I then die cut butterflies in two colours of Core’dinations papers and embossed and sanded them and then prettied them back up with some pearls.

Up, up and away….

I have created this for  the ‘In My Beautiful Balloon Challenge’ in the Moxie Fab World. Hot air balloons are everywhere at the moment and I love it! I used a fantastic hot air balloon digi paper from Create With TLC. The balloon I drew freehand, cut out, inked up and then added some pearls for colour. The banner was again hand cut and stamped with a Tim Holtzstamp.

A hot air balloon trip is so on my bucket list!

When is teal not teal?….

When is teal not teal?….When the camera wont co-operate!! Even with a good camera, a light box and plenty of messing around in Photoshop I just can not get the teal on this card to look like it does in real life. In real life the teal pops wonderfully off the white  giving the perfect balance between colour and white space. Here it just looks blah!

I used a strip of masking tape for the stripe along the side and painted it with the same teal acrylic paint I used on the butterfly and the white Wild Orchid cherry blossoms. I even stamped the sentiment using the teal paint – that was surprisingly difficult! Overall in real life this card makes me smile. The photo of it makes me sigh though :( Thats just life I guess though!!

Anyway I am entering this into the Wild Orchid Anything Goes challenge on this week, they have an amazing prize up for grabs, make sure you check it out. Also because I have used decorative tape on this it fits into the Moxie Fab World Get Daring With Decorative Tape challenge

Good to the last drop….

There is another superb sketch by Lea Lawson over at Skipping Stone designs again this week – check it out here. I am really loving their sketches and am having great fun challenging myself to use the one SSD stamp set I have in various ways on the sketches! I had great fun with this one this morning….

This was also my first ever try at paper piecing – the cardboard sleeves on the take away coffee cups just in case you didnt notice. Not the most elaborate paper piecing in the world but after cutting out 4 coffee cups and their sleeves it was as fancy as I was getting this morning! Because of the paper piecing this also qualifies for entry to the Moxie Fab World paper piecing challenge, once I am not too embarrassed to enter it in it!!
