Tattered Floral Challenge….

Just in case you have been living under a rock, Tim Holtz is holding a challenge - the challenge is to use the tattered floral die on a project.

I had a box I had been wanting to alter for a while and I wanted to use the metal tape technique I used here It took quite a while to cover the box but it was a good project for in front of the telly to take away the boredom! After using a piercing tool and eyelet setting tool to make my metal detailing on it I ‘aged’ the metal with black paint. I then die cut some tattered floral’s and set them directly on the metal and ‘aged’ these some more.

I then die cut more tattered floral’s from grungepaper that I covered with the metal foil. I inked these up with a selection of alcohol inks and then layered them up with flowers cut from black card also. I added some flourishes, some cogs, some pearls and called it done. I wanted the flowers to be a pop of colour on my nice and grungy looking metal box :)

I left the clasp and hinges bronze as I liked the contrast against the silver metal.

Thanks a bunch!

I created a bright and cheerful tag for my entry. I rummaged through my scraps again to create the tag background. I distressed the strips of scraps and glued them all down to my tag base. I stamped a Hero Arts stamp and coloured it with my Inktense pencils. For the sentiment I stamped out a Thank You stamp and then cut it apart to get the individual scrabble tiles. These were also coloured with the Inktense pencils. Overall its a very bright and cheery tag for me!

Make sure you stop by the blog to see the fantastic projects by the rest of the design team. For my card I used kraft card for the base and a rich orange DP. I used purple DP to stamp the sentiment from my new Waltzing Mouse Rescue Remedies set. I embellished with some purple ribbon and Wild Orchid flowers. I love the rich look of orange, purple and brown and to me it is a lovely autumn colour palate!

Ooops….

I had fun making this card. I contemplated genuinely burning a hole in the card with a lighter. Then I decided that with my luck lately that may not be such a good idea! So I cut the hole out by hand and inked it with distress inks to give a burnt effect. I masked the inside of the card so that it got no ink on it apart from when I stamped the sentiment!

I inked the sky and some green for grass and then stamped the little dragon who very naughtily burnt the hole. I coloured him with my watercolour pencils and then with perfect pearls. I couldn’t get a good photo but he shimmers and shines in real life! I then masked the dragon and stamped the reeds from the All things Grow set from Annabelle stamps.

I am entering this into the Annabelle Stamps say it with masking & sponging challenge.

I am also entering it over at  Less is More, where the challenge is one layer cards and ‘In the frame’. I am not sure if there is too much going on on my card to comply with the challenge though, and also it is one layer but the ‘burnt hole’ reveals the inside, is that technically a 2nd layer? The hole does frame the sentiment though…. Anyway if it doesn’t count apologies and I am sure I will have fun making something else to fit the challenge!

Paperplay colour challenge….

This week at PaperPlay Challenges we have a colour theme - Summer Citrus Splash. We want to see you use greens, yellows & oranges on your projects.

I altered a small notebook that I need to use to keep track of what veg I have planted in my garden and when to harvest it etc. The notebook is just the right size to stick in the seed packets from what I have planted also.

The DT have come up with some amazing creations, make sure to go check them all out and then show us your creations with this colour combo!

Its all in the interpretation!

This weeks sketch is up over at Skipping Stones Designs and its a beauty….

When I saw it all sorts of clean and simple ideas were going through my head. Then I sat down at my desk earlier on and started playing. And got a tad carried away! I can still see the sketch in my resulting card, I hope you all can too….

I used the sentiment and the dandilions as one of the ‘lines and hearts’ from the sketch. The layer of green hills and the sun is the second of the ’lines and hearts’  and the 3rd ’line and heart’  is the foreground grass layer that I popped up on foam dots and added a butterfly with some bling on. Its a bit of a push I know but once I got started I just couldn’t stop :)

Say it with pearls….

Say it with pearls….tear drop pearls. Good advice to any man trying to impress a lady!! Also its the theme for the challenge for the Annabelle Stamps challenge this week. My card was actually made for the Say it in Monochrome colours challenge for last week but life got too hectic to give me a chance to photograph the card and get it uploaded. When I saw this weeks theme I stamped another flower from the Floral Silhouettes set on the top right corner and added some 3mm metallic pearls as I had no tear drop pearls. This worked out quite well as I felt the card was still lacking something when I made it first! I also used the floral silhouette set on the tag on the card and used all things grow on the square in the centre of the doily.

I dont know if the card fully fits the challenge but at least I finally got it photographed :)
